Manning quarterbacks have a history of being selected at or near the top of the draft, and that still could be the case — but things aren’t off to a blazing start.
The Longhorns lost their season-opener at Ohio State, and Manning completed just 17 of 30 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
A quarterback that did shine in Week 1 was LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, whose Tigers took down then-No. 4 Clemson. He went 28-for-38 passing for 232 yards and one TD.
Penn State’s Drew Allar, tied atop the DraftKings oddsboard with Nussmeier, completed 22 of 26 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown in the Nittany Lions’ Week 1 win over Nevada.
Going back to the Manning family history, Archie was the second pick in the 1971 NFL Draft, landing in New Orleans.
Nearly three decades later, in 1998, Peyton was picked first by the Indianapolis Colts.
Then, just six years after that, in 2004, Eli went No. 1 to the New York Giants.
