A 27-year-old dancer named Katie Brown experienced a shocking surprise when she delivered her second child on the street, unaware she was pregnant until labor struck suddenly.
The Unexpected Onset of Labor
Ten weeks ago, Katie woke up in the middle of the night with intense stomach pain. She initially believed it was period cramps and took paracetamol to ease the discomfort. As the pain worsened and she could no longer sit comfortably, she decided around 7 a.m. to seek emergency care.
She informed her mother, who suspected appendicitis. Katie called for an ambulance, which initially estimated a four-hour wait. However, paramedics arrived promptly at 9:30 a.m.
Delivery on the Street
While paramedics escorted her outside, Katie dropped to her hands and knees. Her baby boy, named William, was born just before 10 a.m. right there on the street.
Katie’s mother, present at the scene, caught her grandson’s head as she noticed it emerging. Katie later shared, “I genuinely thought I was just having a massive poo. I thought something had happened to my bowels.”
Despite having a daughter previously and being familiar with pregnancy symptoms, Katie had no indication of this pregnancy. She continued having what she believed were regular periods.
Explaining the Cryptic Pregnancy
Medical experts attribute this to a cryptic pregnancy, which can happen for various reasons. Katie was using the combined oral contraceptive pill, causing withdrawal bleeds during her seven-day break that mimicked normal periods.
With her first child, Katie showed all typical pregnancy signs, making this second experience particularly startling.
