A 48-year-old bodybuilder from Newark faces a permanent ban from an LA Fitness location in Kearny, New Jersey, following an altercation where he shoved another gym member for interrupting his workout video.
Altercation Captured on Video
Footage from April 2024 captures Jamal Allen lifting weights when another man walks in front of his camera. Allen immediately confronts him, stating, “Don’t walk past my video, brother,” while placing his arm across the man’s chest and pushing him backward.
He repeats the warning and delivers a slight shove, adding, “I’m recording right here,” as he points to the camera. “You walked past my s**t. Damn. The f**k. You have no consideration.” The two continue talking off-camera.
Alternative Angle Reveals Tension
A second video from a different perspective shows the man lingering behind Allen before moving around to cross in front of the camera. Allen accuses him of “plotting the whole time,” suggesting deliberate interference.
Gym Influencer’s Strong Reaction
Fitness influencer Joey Swoll reviewed the clips and publicly criticized Allen’s actions. “You really think it’s okay to put your hands on someone for walking through your video?” Swoll questions in his response video. “Just because you’re filming does not mean that everybody else has to stop their workout just for you.”
Swoll points out that Allen’s set had not yet begun, so the recording remained intact. He calls for the gym to revoke Allen’s membership.
Membership Revocation Confirmed
By January 2025, Swoll announces that LA Fitness has banned Allen from the Kearny location. Despite the incident, Allen continues sharing motivational workout content on his social media platforms.
