Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has shared the personal reasons behind her break from hosting the popular podcast ‘The Morning After.’ She described how the intense anxiety surrounding each episode release prompted her to step away.
Reason for the Break
In a candid Instagram story video, Kelly explained that the dread of seeing her words misinterpreted or sensationalized in headlines became overwhelming. ‘What I don’t miss is the anxiety I used to get the night before every episode was released wondering what headline was going to be created from the episode,’ she stated. ‘It just felt like my name was in the headlines every week and that is not what I wanted this podcast for. So that is a big reason why I took a break. I needed a mental break.’
Kelly co-hosted the show with friend Hank Winchester, discussing topics ranging from her game-day experiences as an NFL quarterback’s wife to life with a star player. Episodes also explored her personal background and featured guests, including Matthew Stafford himself.
Future of the Podcast Uncertain
While Kelly admitted the break allowed her to focus on family life during the last season—supporting her children and husband without added stress—she expressed mixed feelings. ‘It was really nice just being there and supporting and being with my kids and Matthew all last season and not having to worry about it,’ she said.
Despite enjoying the freedom, she confessed a longing to return to the microphone. ‘I really do miss it,’ Kelly noted. ‘I think you can do a lot of good with a podcast if you do it right. So I’m trying to figure out what that looks like and still be super enjoyable for you all. So stay tuned on that. I’m working on it. And once there is a decision that I’ve made, I promise you, you’ll know.’
Her comments leave the podcast’s future in question, with no firm plans announced yet.
