The project faced a public legal dispute between publisher Krafton and the founders of developer Unknown Worlds, yet the team perseveres to deliver a compelling experience.
Overcoming Development Hurdles
Anthony Gallegos, design lead for Subnautica 2, addressed the difficulties in the latest YouTube devlog. “The team has weathered a lot,” Gallegos stated. He emphasized unwavering commitment: “Despite any rough patches, our goal has always remained the same—to deliver the best Subnautica experience we can.”
Gallegos revealed what sustained the team during the toughest periods. “One is the excitement of working on the next Subnautica game, and what we have is really special. The other is you. Your endless enthusiasm and excitement drives us to deliver something worthy of the name,” he added.
Early Access Expectations
The game launches with an ambitious day-one build, offering a strong playable foundation. However, players should anticipate bugs, unpolished elements, and the absence of a complete story. Early access spans at least two years, with ongoing updates.
