Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Newlywed Groom, Bride Miraculously Survives
A devastating helicopter crash has claimed the life of a 25-year-old groom just moments after he departed his wedding ceremony with his new wife. The bride, remarkably, survived the incident after waking up trapped beneath the wreckage.
Dave Fiji and his bride, Jessni, had just celebrated what relatives described as a “perfect wedding” in Dawsonville, Georgia, on Friday, May 29th. Hundreds of friends and family had gathered to witness the couple exchange vows, anticipating the start of their honeymoon.
However, their celebratory departure via helicopter to Atlanta was reportedly delayed due to adverse weather conditions. Fog had raised concerns, prompting apprehension about the flight.
According to his father, George Fiji, Dave, who was himself a pilot, voiced reservations about flying in the deteriorating visibility. “He said, ‘I wouldn’t fly, we would not fly in this visibility,’” George recounted.
Despite these concerns, the couple ultimately decided to proceed with their journey. The pilot reportedly planned to navigate above the fog by flying at a higher altitude.
Tragically, mere minutes after taking off, the helicopter lost altitude and crashed into a nearby wooded area. Both Dave and the pilot sustained fatal injuries.
Jessni, however, regained consciousness amidst the debris, finding herself pinned beneath the wreckage. “She said when she woke up, she was under the rubble,” George stated. “She woke up and saw him lying on her chest. She herself is a nurse. When she touched him, she called out to him. He was already cold.”
The newlywed bride remained trapped at the scene for approximately five hours before rescue teams located the wreckage and were able to extricate her.
Remarkably, Jessni sustained only minor cuts and bruises, with no serious injuries reported. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and remained there for several days.
The sudden loss has left family members in profound grief, struggling to comprehend the tragedy that occurred so soon after Dave’s wedding day.
Dave’s mother, Pheba, described her son as “kind, gentle, and selfless,” adding that he was a “precious child, a gift from God.” His father echoed these sentiments, highlighting Dave’s “God-fearing” nature.
Dave and Jessni had known each other for a decade, having met through their church.
The precise cause of the helicopter crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
