Australian Woman Details Roommate’s Deportation Following Rent Disputes and Unsanctioned Business

An Australian woman has revealed she was instrumental in the deportation of her former Italian roommate, citing unpaid rent and the unauthorized operation of a tattoo business within their shared living space. The confession was made during a segment on Sydney’s 2Day FM breakfast show.

The woman, who identified herself only as ‘Sarah,’ explained her actions, acknowledging a degree of moral ambiguity. “I don’t know if I can fully justify it, but I’ll try,” she stated to hosts Nath Roye and Emma Chow.

Living Room Tattoo Parlor and Unpaid Rent

Sarah detailed how her roommate began tattooing clients in the living room without consultation, effectively turning the residential space into a commercial enterprise. “She used to tattoo people in our living room. [It was] a business, without consulting [us],” Sarah reported. Compounding the issue, the roommate allegedly absconded without paying four weeks’ worth of rent before embarking on a holiday.

Reporting Visa Breach

Sarah took steps to report her roommate to authorities, informing them of potential breaches to her relationship visa. “I knew she was here on a visa in a relationship with her partner,” Sarah explained. She possessed evidence, including banking records showing regular rent payments, which contradicted the roommate’s claimed residency status with her partner. “She had falsely declared that she was living with him, but I had banking records that she paid me every week for rent.”

Researching online, Sarah discovered a government department that investigates cases of individuals fraudulently residing in the country. “I googled it. There’s a government department where, if someone is fraudulently in the country, you can actually provide them evidence and they’ll go and investigate,” she said.

When asked if she had specifically searched for “How do I get someone deported?”, Sarah responded with a candid “Pretty much.” She added that the roommate had already moved out due to the unpaid rent and subsequent departure, but they remained connected on social media, allowing Sarah to observe the unfolding situation. “I don’t think she ever quite figured out it was me,” Sarah commented, speculating on the roommate’s confusion regarding how authorities became aware of her false declaration.

Regarding the finality of the deportation, Sarah confirmed, “No. Gone.” Her actions were acknowledged on air as part of a listener segment focused on acts of retribution, with the hosts playfully welcoming her to the show’s ‘The Revengers’ lineup.
