Senegal Football Federation Addresses Security Check Concerns
The Senegal Football Federation has issued a statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding their arrival in the United States for the World Cup. The federation’s announcement comes after video footage circulated online, purportedly showing players and staff undergoing security screening on an airport tarmac. These visuals generated considerable online commentary and criticism.
Federation Explains Pre-Arranged Checks
In an effort to prevent misinterpretations, the federation explained that the security checks depicted in the footage did not occur upon the team’s arrival in San Antonio. Instead, these checks were pre-arranged and took place prior to the team’s departure from Raleigh.
“Following the circulation on social media of a video showing players and staff members of the Senegal national team undergoing a security check on an airport tarmac, we wish to provide the following clarifications in order to avoid any erroneous interpretation,” the statement read.
“Contrary to certain reported information, this check did not take place upon the team’s arrival in San Antonio, but rather at the time of boarding at Raleigh airport on Sunday, June 7, 2026, before the flight’s departure.”
Optimizing Travel Logistics
The federation detailed that the team bus transported the national squad directly from their hotel in Raleigh to the airport tarmac. This direct access procedure allowed players and staff to complete all necessary security and police checks at the foot of the aircraft, bypassing the standard terminal areas and boarding lounges.
“This arrangement was essentially aimed at optimising the travel time of the delegation and facilitating its boarding on the private flight to San Antonio,” the statement continued.
Assurance of Compliance and Smooth Travel
The Senegal Football Federation emphasized that the entire procedure was conducted in accordance with prevailing airport security regulations and that no specific incidents were reported.
“We wish to emphasise that this procedure took place in compliance with the airport security rules in force and that no particular incident was reported. The private flight connecting Raleigh to San Antonio took place under excellent conditions, and the entire delegation arrived at its destination normally.”
Recent Match and Upcoming Fixtures
Senegal recently participated in a match, drawing 0-0 against Saudi Arabia. During this game, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson received a red card. The national team is scheduled to compete against France, Norway, and Iraq in their upcoming group stage matches.
