A 21-year-old woman who tragically died following a bungee jumping incident was reportedly still alive when first responders arrived, according to an off-duty nurse who attempted to administer aid.
Horrific Fall and Rescue Attempt
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, lost her life after a video captured her being propelled off the Ponte do Esqueleto, known locally as the Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, Brazil on Saturday, June 14. An off-duty nurse, Rayza Dias, has come forward to share her experience at the scene, stating that Maria Eduarda was still breathing and possessed a faint pulse as she tried to save her.
“I even talked to her,” Nurse Dias recounted. “I have a habit of joking and saying, ‘Nobody dies on my shift’. And I told her, ‘Duda (a nickname for Eduarda), nobody dies on my shift’. Even though I wasn’t on my shift there.””
Background of the Victim and Incident Details
Maria Eduarda, who aspired to be a teacher, worked as a physical education professional at a gym in Jandira, São Paulo. The widely circulated footage of the incident shows onlookers attempting to alert staff as Maria Eduarda was brought near the edge of the bridge. “The rope!” one witness is heard shouting, followed by another voice echoing, “Guys, the rope!” No immediate calls to halt the jump were audible before the tragedy unfolded.
Arrests and Charges
Three men have since been apprehended in connection with her death. Authorities have identified them as Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42. They are facing charges of homicide with implied malice, as they were reportedly unable to provide a clear explanation to the Civil Police regarding how the accident occurred.
Chilling Social Media Post
Adding a layer of poignancy to the tragedy, Maria Eduarda’s final Instagram post, shared mere minutes before the bungee jump, has drawn significant attention. She wrote, “Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”
