The image, posted on a Monday, featured Grey alongside her long-time friend, actress Tracy Pollan, captured during a beach outing in the 1980s. The photograph depicted the two women embracing on the shore, both wearing only bikini bottoms.
Grey, 66, strategically used emojis to artfully obscure their torsos in the shared image. The post was a heartfelt birthday tribute to Pollan. “Happy birthday @tracy.pollan. Friendship like this is [star emoji],” Grey wrote, adding a lyrical quote from Cyndi Lauper’s song “Time After Time”: “If you fall I will catch you, I’ll be waiting time after time!” She concluded with an exclamation of affection: “Hahahaha I love you!!”
Pollan, also 66, responded warmly in the comments section, “Tracy added in the comment section, as their fans shared the love.” Fans quickly engaged with the post, with one user humorously inquiring about their fitness routines, asking, “What 1980s exercises were you ladies doing to get abs like that?” Another commented simply, “Absolutely gorgeous.” The close bond between Grey and Pollan has been evident for decades; the actresses have been friends since they were 14 years old, growing up together in New York.
A Lifelong Sisterhood
Grey has previously spoken about their enduring friendship. In a social media tribute last year, she referred to Pollan as her “lifelong sister-friend.” Grey wrote, “Happy birthday to my lifelong sister-friend @tracy.pollan. There is nothing like having someone you can always count on, from 14 on, through so many chapters, through so much life. I [love you] #tracypollan #oldfriendsarethebestfriends.” The pair recently reunited for a getaway in February, sharing photos from a beach vacation. Michael J. Fox’s Tribute to Wife
Meanwhile, Tracy Pollan’s husband of 37 years, actor Michael J. Fox, also posted a touching birthday message for his wife. “Wow!! Tracy, have the beautiful birthday you deserve. Love you xoxo,” he wrote, accompanying his message with a series of photographs. The images included Pollan in a formal gown, another of her smiling near Christmas trees, and a snapshot of the couple seated together.
The couple has navigated significant challenges since Fox’s Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in the 1990s. They have remained steadfastly supportive of each other, with the assistance of their four children: Sam, 37, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, 31, and Esmé, 24. Reflecting on their family’s experience, Pollan shared insights into the impact of Fox’s condition. “Michael was diagnosed before the girls were born and very, very early into Sam’s life, so it’s kind of all they know, really,” Pollan told People. “And they’re just incredibly supportive. They’re very helpful to me. I lean on them a lot and [because] Michael is so optimistic, which is wonderful and really helps him, but it’s really important to also understand that this is a huge challenge.”
Pollan also emphasized the demanding nature of caregiving. “It’s very difficult for the family, for the caregivers, and obviously for the patient, so I think it’s also important to acknowledge that, and acknowledge that it’s not just all sort of easy. It’s not easy. So you know, and it’s hard for them, but they show up and you know, they’re there for us.”
