British Influencer Accused of Murder in Dubai
A 23-year-old British national, Brooke George, has been formally charged with the murder of a man she met online in Dubai. George, who previously worked as a shop assistant, traveled to the United Arab Emirates to meet the 26-year-old victim, identified as William Treeby, also from Kent. The incident occurred after the pair met on Facebook and George flew out to the UAE.
Self-Defense Claim Amid Abuse Allegations
According to reports a pressure group assisting George, she claims she was subjected to repeated abuse by Treeby and that the fatal stabbing occurred in self-defense during an attack. George alleges that Treeby’s behavior turned controlling and abusive during her second visit to Dubai, escalating when he became intoxicated and assaulted her in Jumeirah Village. She reportedly contacted her family in a state of panic, describing being repeatedly punched and arranging a flight home with the help of friends.
Upon returning to her apartment to retrieve her passport, George claims she discovered her belongings scattered. She asserts that she was then attacked and punched hard in the face when she demanded her passport back. Fearing for her life, George states she grabbed a kitchen knife within her reach and stabbed Treeby.
Arrest and Detainment Concerns
After leaving the apartment, George attempted to board a flight back to the UK but was apprehended by authorities at Dubai airport and subsequently charged with premeditated murder. Reports indicate she is currently being held at Bur Dubai Police Station. Her family has expressed grave concerns for her welfare, with her mother, Thereza George, stating her daughter was “utterly terrified” and believed she was trying to escape a dangerous situation.
Family members claim George has been denied legal representation and is struggling to comprehend legal proceedings due to a language barrier. Her mother described Brooke as “absolutely terrified” and visibly distressed following the incident, noting a swollen eye. She expressed deep concern for her daughter’s safety and believes she acted out of genuine fear.
Call for Protection and Investigation
Advocates assisting Brooke George are calling for her to receive protection, adequate medical care, and immediate British consular assistance. They emphasize that investigators should consider the possibility that George was a victim of serious violence. There are also broader concerns being raised about influencers and young women being lured to the emirate under false pretenses, often with promises of luxurious lifestyles or paid work.
Authorities are urged to investigate the full circumstances of the incident and to consider whether other women may have also been victims of the deceased man.
