Actress Emily Atack has celebrated her marriage to scientist Alistair Garner in a private family ceremony held in the UK over the weekend. The intimate event marks the first of two weddings, with a larger celebration planned in Spain next month.
A Joyful UK Wedding Ceremony
The star, known for her role in ‘The Inbetweeners,’ shared glimpses of the special occasion on social media. In newly released photographs, Atack is seen embracing her husband, Alistair Garner, following their declaration as husband and wife. She showcased her wedding attire, a striking plunging gown by Josephine Scott, complemented by a floor-length veil. The couple exchanged vows in the presence of close family and friends, an event Atack described as “absolutely perfect.”
Sharing her excitement on Instagram, Atack posted, “Yesterday we officially got married among close family and friends. It was absolutely perfect. I can’t believe we get to do all that again in a few weeks time. Christ, we have fun don’t we @dralistairgarner.” The post quickly garnered congratulatory messages from notable figures, including author Elizabeth Day and presenter Will Manning, who expressed their happiness for the newlyweds.
Dual Celebrations: UK Intimacy and Spanish Grandeur
This UK ceremony serves as an intimate prelude to a more elaborate celebration scheduled for September in Spain. Atack has referred to the upcoming Spanish nuptials as a “fat, f*** off party,” indicating a desire for a grand and festive occasion. The actress, who has been actively involved in the wedding planning, expressed her enjoyment of the process, even finding delight in details like choosing napkins.
Atack, 36, and Garner, 40, are planning a three-day celebration in Andalusia, Spain. The choice of Spain for their main wedding venue is deeply personal, stemming from Atack’s lifelong connection to the country. She has shared that her family has holidayed there since her childhood, and they previously owned property in the region. Even after the property was sold, the family has continued to visit annually, cherishing the stunning countryside and guaranteed sunshine.
A ‘Big’ Wedding Dress and Celebratory Plans
Drawing inspiration from her role in the show ‘Rivals,’ Atack is embracing a bolder fashion statement for her wedding attire. She has indicated that her wedding dress for the Spanish celebration will be “big,” reflecting a departure from more understated styles. “Since Rivals, in terms of fashion, I tend to go quite big now generally,” she explained in an interview with Grazia magazine.
The actress has also revealed a notable decision regarding the guest list for the Spanish wedding: a strict no-children policy. Despite being a mother herself to her two-year-old son, Barney, with Garner, Atack has communicated this rule to her guests. Surprisingly, she found that many guests were receptive to the idea. “We’re being kind to our friends and making sure that people don’t have to worry too much about paying for lots of things, but we have said no kids at the wedding, no children,” she stated on The Romesh Ranganathan Show podcast. She added, “I’m surprised by how many people are happy about that. I thought I’d get a lot of people kicking off, but they’re like no, ‘f*** those kids.'”
Family and Future Plans
Emily Atack is a mother to two-year-old Barney, whom she shares with Alistair Garner. The couple became engaged in July 2025, with their son born the year prior. News of their upcoming marriage was hinted at earlier this year when Atack’s mother alluded to the wedding taking place in 2024.
The couple’s journey towards marriage has been marked by joyful milestones, including a hen weekend in Cannes. Photos from the event showed Atack enjoying herself with friends, complete with a novelty veil and celebrating with Lady A rosé. She humorously noted the abundance of rosé and the fun chaos of the weekend, even recommending hen dos as a source of great fun, albeit with a warning about losing belongings.
A Love Story Rooted in Shared Experiences
Atack’s fondness for Spain is a long-standing theme, with her family having a history of holidays and property ownership there. This deep connection to the country undoubtedly influenced the decision to host their major wedding celebration in Andalusia. The combination of intimate family moments in the UK and a grand fiesta in Spain promises a memorable start to their married life.
The actress expressed her contentment with her current life situation, telling one publication, “Life is good. It doesn’t get much better than where I am now.” This sentiment underscores the happiness and fulfillment she feels as she embarks on this new chapter with Alistair Garner.
