Sarah Ferguson’s Portuguese Home Request Reportedly Denied by Princess Eugenie
SHARE

Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, reportedly sought extensive access to her daughter Princess Eugenie’s secluded home in Portugal following the birth of Eugenie’s third child. However, this request was allegedly turned down by Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, who were concerned about paparazzi attention at their “bolthole.” Royal author Andrew Lownie shared these claims, suggesting Ferguson’s return to the UK and her movements were strategically timed.

Sarah Ferguson’s Reported Portuguese Home Request

According to royal author Andrew Lownie, Sarah Ferguson made a significant request to Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, concerning their residence in Portugal. Lownie stated that Ferguson “was pleading to be given a free run of the secluded Portuguese home,” which would have allowed her unrestricted access to come and go as she pleased. This request, however, was reportedly deemed “a request too far” by the Brooksbanks, who were keen to protect their privacy and prevent their home from becoming a target for paparazzi.

Despite this alleged denial, Lownie indicated that Ferguson was still welcomed as a guest by Eugenie. The author’s claims were published in the Daily Mail, where he detailed his understanding of Ferguson’s recent activities and her connections within the Royal Family.

Timing of Ferguson’s UK Return and Sussexes’ Plans

Andrew Lownie posited that Sarah Ferguson’s return to the UK was not coincidental. He suggested that Ferguson may have been aware of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s intentions to spend more time in Britain, potentially even enrolling their children, Archie and Lilibet, in UK private schools. Lownie’s “bomb-proof sources” informed him of this alleged foreknowledge.

Lownie theorized that Princess Eugenie might have been a conduit for this information, given that she and her husband recently welcomed their third child, daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, in Portugal. He claimed Ferguson had visited Eugenie and Jack at their Portuguese home after the baby’s birth, creating an opportunity for discussions about the Sussexes’ plans.

Meghan Markle’s Potential Role in Information Sharing

While Lownie initially suggested Eugenie could have shared details about the Sussexes’ plans, he later leaned towards the possibility that Meghan Markle herself may have communicated directly with Sarah Ferguson. Lownie speculated that Meghan might have felt she had “two sound reasons” for confiding in Ferguson. One reason cited was their shared experience of navigating a complex relationship with the Palace and the public eye.

“Very few people on the planet have personal experience of what that’s like, and both will benefit by sharing their notes,” Lownie wrote, highlighting a potential bond between the two women based on their unique positions. He also noted that Meghan has long admired Ferguson’s ability to maintain connections to royal life while simultaneously developing a commercial career, citing Ferguson’s past ventures in advertising and television shopping channels.

Sussexes’ UK Presence and Future Prospects

Reports have consistently suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are considering a more sustained presence in the UK, with discussions about their children’s education in Britain fueling these speculations. However, the exact location and duration of any potential UK residency remain unconfirmed.

Alison Boshoff, editor-at-large, offered a different perspective on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast. Boshoff suggested that the narrative of a permanent UK relocation for the Sussex family might be a strategic briefing designed to divert attention from the reality. According to Boshoff, the current plan might involve Harry and their children relocating to the UK, while Meghan would travel back and forth to fulfill professional commitments and earn income.

Boshoff described Meghan as a “smart, ambitious, determined woman” who is adept at making ventures successful. This viewpoint suggests that Meghan’s focus may be on leveraging her profile for commercial opportunities, rather than a full-time return to the UK with her family.

Conclusion: Navigating Royal Relationships and Public Scrutiny

The reported dynamics between Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex highlight the intricate relationships and strategic considerations within the extended Royal Family. Lownie’s account of Ferguson’s request for access to Eugenie’s Portuguese home, though denied, underscores the desire for privacy among some royal family members. Furthermore, the speculation surrounding the Sussexes’ future plans and their potential communication channels with other royals, like Ferguson, points to a complex web of personal and public engagements. As various members of the Royal Family navigate their public roles and private lives, their decisions continue to attract significant media attention and public interest.
