CEBU, Philippines – Directors, school, and college students of the College of the Philippines Cebu united for a “Day of Indignation” on Monday, September 15, finishing up a sequence of actions to voice their frustrations amid allegations of corruption linked to flood management initiatives.
UP Cebu Chancellor Leo Malagar informed reporters that they’re calling out what can solely be described as “nationwide theft,” citing Senate and Home hearings that exposed the existence of ghost flood management works – initiatives left unfinished for years but declared accomplished.
Malagar had beforehand issued an announcement highlighting that the funds used for these ghost initiatives may have been spent on constructing lecture rooms, strengthening medical advantages, bettering amenities, elevating wages, or offering safe housing for employees and academics.
In an announcement on Monday, the UP Cebu College Council reaffirmed the chancellor’s message and rejected the normalization of graft and corruption.
