Residents in Tameside expressed shock after a violent assault left a man in his 30s with serious injuries on Greenside Crescent in Droylsden. The attack occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday, January 30, involving multiple assailants armed with weapons. Authorities confirmed the victim was not stabbed, though details about the weapons remain undisclosed.
Incident Details and Police Response
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, where the man received initial treatment before being transported to a hospital for further care. The street stayed cordoned off into the following day, with a forensic tent set up to aid the investigation. Officers conducted door-to-door inquiries and searched nearby areas to gather evidence.
Greater Manchester Police stated they are working to determine the motive behind the assault, which appears to have been carried out by several individuals. The force emphasized that detectives are in the early stages of the probe and have increased patrols in the area to reassure the community.
Residents’ Eyewitness Accounts
Locals described the usually peaceful, family-oriented neighborhood as disrupted by the sudden violence. Scott Anderton, 28, who lives nearby, recounted the chaos: “I was watching TV with my son when it started. There were screams and shouting—blood-curdling screams. I looked outside and saw two hooded figures standing there before they ran off.”
Anderton added that neighbors rushed out, creating a scene of confusion, and police arrived about 20 minutes later. “The whole street got taped off, and they put up a tent. We were worried someone had died. Police stayed all night and into the day. It’s scary—this is a kid-heavy area, and I walk around with my son all the time.”
A female resident who arrived home from work described a grim sight: “My boss dropped me off, and as we pulled up, neighbors were out, and someone was on the floor, covered in blood. I offered help, but they said police were coming. Kids play on this street all the time—there are lots of them here.”
Billy Roberts, 56, learned of the incident while at a local pub. “My friend got a call from his wife about trouble on the street. By the time he got back, police were there with flashing lights everywhere. It’s shocking. This crescent is quiet—you don’t see much trouble or violence. I wish the man a speedy recovery.”
Another longtime resident, who has lived in the area for nearly 30 years, noted the rarity of such events: “I stepped out around 6:30 p.m., and the street was fully taped off. They mentioned a serious incident and were waiting for a sniffer dog. It was a shock—normally, it’s very quiet here.”
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Inspector Paul Cawsey of Tameside CID urged the public to assist: “The investigation is ongoing as we establish the motivation for this incident, which left a man requiring treatment at the scene and in hospital. It involved multiple individuals using weapons that caused serious injuries to the victim.”
