A redesigned electric vehicle qualifies for a £3,750 government incentive, positioning it as a standout model for 2026. The third-generation Nissan LEAF earns recognition as a top contender, with deliveries slated to begin in February.
Key Features and Performance
The updated LEAF transitions from a traditional hatchback to a compact SUV design, offering enhanced versatility. Buyers can choose between a 52kWh or 75kWh battery, delivering an impressive range of 271 to 386 miles on a single charge. Powered by 215 horsepower and 355Nm of torque, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 100mph.
Andrew Walker, Editor of Company Car and Van, highlights the model’s strengths in pricing, range, and driving dynamics. He states: “We’re delighted to include the all-electric Nissan LEAF in our annual list of award winners. The car that started it all has a new lease of life for 2026. The British-built LEAF arrives to stiff competition and whilst it may not rewrite the rulebook as it once did, a combination of generous pricing, an excellent maximum range, clever tech and decent handling make it our Car to Watch for 2026.”
UK Manufacturing and Pricing
Production of the new LEAF will occur at Nissan’s Sunderland factory in the UK, supporting local jobs and supply chains. The Department for Transport confirmed last November that the model qualifies for the Electric Car Grant, reducing its starting price to £32,249—slightly above the comparable Renault 4.
James Taylor, Managing Director of Nissan GB, es enthusiasm for the accolade. He says: “A big thanks to the team at Company Car & Van for recognising the talents of our fantastic British-built LEAF electric car and awarding it their Car to Watch in 2026. We couldn’t agree more with their assessment. Together with our other fully electric models—including the all-new Micra and Ariya, plus the Townstar and Interstar vans—Nissan has a rapidly expanding electric portfolio with real appeal to company car fleets and we look forward to welcoming new customers to our brand.”
