Kelvin Fletcher encounters a setback in the newest episode of Fletcher’s Family Farm, airing Sunday on ITV. The former Emmerdale actor and his wife Liz manage their Cheshire farm, where they recently expanded into arable farming.
Oat Harvest Falls Short
The couple tested their first oat crop to see if it qualifies for porridge production. Kelvin heads to the mill with high hopes, noting the excitement of reviving crops on land unused for 20 years.
“There’s a lot riding on this,” Kelvin says. “We were bold enough to try arable farming and even braver to aim for porridge oats. It’s nerve-racking, but this is just the start of our journey.”
Managing Director James examines the batch and delivers the news: the oats fail to meet human consumption standards. “They look well but haven’t absorbed enough moisture to swell properly,” James explains. “The long, hot, dry summer meant insufficient rain during key growth stages.”
James adds that the oats retain nutritional value for animal feed. Kelvin stays positive: “I’m optimistic despite the disappointment. Now I understand what it takes to succeed. We grew a great crop—it just lacked that extra push.”
Joy Over Dog’s Pregnancy
Liz shares an emotional moment when vet Hugo confirms their dog Ginger is expecting puppies. “This is the best news you’ve ever given me,” Liz exclaims. Hugo jokes, “Better than the cows?” Liz replies, “It’s close, but she’s our baby.”
Season Four Highlights
The episode previews Liz and Kelvin’s plans to expand their flock and herd, hiring local farmhand Josh for livestock management. Daughter Marnie meets her new Jacobs sheep, the boys enjoy motorbikes, and the family gains approval for farmhouse renovations.
Fletcher’s Family Farm returns Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on ITV.
