Firefighters in northwest Calgary tackled hazardous conditions Friday night after a water main break flooded streets with icy water.
Incident at 19 Street and Constable Road
The rupture occurred along 19 Street and Constable Road N.W., creating a steamy, slick mess in freezing temperatures. Crews arrived on scene around 8 p.m. and worked swiftly to contain the water flow at the curb, channeling it into a storm sewer.
Response and Safety Measures
Despite the slippery surfaces, firefighters managed the situation effectively. City sanding crews have since been deployed to treat affected areas and reduce slip risks.
Officials report no residential flooding from the incident. This localized water main issue differs significantly from major events like the Bearspaw feeder main break in the same northwest sector.
