Apple Vision Pro immerses users in stunning virtual Environments, from the shores of Mount Hood to the Moon’s surface gazing back at Earth. The latest visionOS 26 update introduces a captivating new planetary vista on Jupiter’s moon Amalthea, elevating the experience to new heights.
Insights from the Design Team
Yuri Imoto, visionOS Product Marketing lead, and Matt Dessero, Human Interface Designer at Apple, share the detailed process of transforming concepts into these lifelike spaces. They explain why Amalthea stood out among Jupiter’s other moons for its unique visual appeal and immersive potential.
Overcoming Design Challenges
Without access to LiDAR scans or on-site photography, the team partnered with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to scientifically model Amalthea’s rugged surface. This collaboration ensured scientific accuracy in every texture and terrain detail.
Hands-On Development in Vision Pro
To capture the precise scale and sensory feel, designers crafted the Environments directly within the Vision Pro headset. This immersive approach guaranteed that the final product delivers an authentic sense of presence on the distant moon.
