A dedicated Manchester United fan, known online as The United Strand, has shared humorous plans to maintain his online fame once the team achieves five consecutive victories, ending his long-running haircut pledge.
The Haircut Challenge Unfolds
Frank Ilett, aka The United Strand, has avoided a haircut since October 2024, vowing to keep growing his mop-top until Manchester United secures five straight wins. The Red Devils came tantalizingly close last month, notching four successive triumphs under interim manager Michael Carrick, only to draw against West Ham in the fifth match. With just nine games left in the season, Ilett remains optimistic about Carrick delivering the streak.
Satirical Video on Staying Relevant
In a lighthearted skit produced in partnership with bookmaker Paddy Power, Ilett attends a mock seminar called ‘How to Diversify Your Viral Momentum.’ Joined by fellow internet sensations like the Wealdstone Raider (Gordon Hill), the tight-jeans crew (Jamie Philips, Connor Humpage, Kevin Rooney, and Alex Lacey), Danny Andrews (famous for his fish-and-rice-cake diet), and Guy Goma (mistakenly interviewed on live TV in 2006), Ilett seeks advice on life after the haircut.
Entering the hall, Ilett declares: ‘When Man United get those five wins in a row, that’s curtains for me. I need to stay relevant and diversify my brand, and to do that, I’m going to need help.’
The instructor teases Ilett’s ‘big stupid clown hair’ before urging him to reveal his true self. Standing before the group, Ilett proclaims: ‘Yeah, I’m the guy with the big head of hair. But there’s so much more to me than that, and I’m ready to show the world.’
Motivational music swells, but it cuts short as Ilett unzips his jacket to expose a thick mat of chest hair. Goma reacts: ‘What is that? Right, I’m off,’ before exiting. One of the tight-jeans stars quips: ‘I’m going to be sick on my chinos.’
A Paddy Power spokesperson noted: ‘Frank’s become a household name thanks to his non-haircut pledge and Manchester United’s struggles, but with the team improving under Michael Carrick, we’re helping him future-proof his meme career. His fellow viral stars prove reinvention keeps you fresh—though his body hair strategy may not appeal to all. Let’s hope he doesn’t wait years for those five wins.’
Carrick Acknowledges the Stunt
Michael Carrick addressed the fan’s challenge ahead of last month’s West Ham clash. ‘I can say I’m aware of it, yeah,’ the interim boss stated. ‘My kids have made me aware of it, if anything, but it certainly won’t go into the team talk from a professional level. I can understand what’s going on with it and it does make me smile but it won’t have an impact ultimately in the end.’
