Veteran Actress Anne Schedeen Passes Away at 77
Anne Schedeen, the actress widely recognized for her portrayal of Kate Tanner in the popular 1980s sitcom ALF, has died at the age of 77. Her family confirmed the news, sharing their profound sadness through a heartfelt announcement.
The announcement, posted on a social media platform, described Schedeen as having passed away peacefully. It detailed her vibrant spirit, noting her “extraordinary legacy of creative energy, whip smart humor, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs, burning hatred for Trump, passion for second-hand thrifting, and love for a good story.” The family expressed their deep sense of loss, stating, “We are bereft without her. We loved her so so much, as did all who met her.”
A Cherished Presence
Relatives remembered Schedeen as a “force” and conveyed that “it is unimaginable to think about life without her in it.” They shared her own words, “‘I’m always with you.’ And she’s right.” The memorial highlighted the enduring impact of her life, mentioning that “The memories, artwork, belly laughter, handmade jewelry, oil paintings, sculptures, costumes, and all around joie de vivre live on.” The family encouraged loved ones to “Raise a margarita in her honor.”
Schedeen’s agent, Tom Markley, also shared a statement, noting, “Annie meant the world to her family and this agency.”

Beyond her iconic role on ALF, Schedeen graced the screens in various television productions throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

In lieu of flowers, Schedeen’s family has requested that donations be made to “one of Annie’s favorite causes, Habitat for Humanity.”
Schedeen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Christopher Barrett, their daughter Tay Barrett, daughter-in-law Hilary Flynn, her sister Sarabeth Schedeen, niece Minnie Land, brother Roland ‘Tony’ Schedeen, sister-in-law Julieann Schedeen, and her cherished rescue dogs, Roo and Red.
