A contract safety guard was hospitalized Monday afternoon after he drove onto an airport taxiway and sped previous planes, authorities stated.
On Dec. 8 round 1:12 p.m., the guard assigned to a safety checkpoint “drove a automobile into an airport taxiway at a excessive charge of pace,” in accordance with a press release from John Wayne Airport spokesperson AnnaSophia Servin.
Video shared with ABC7 confirmed a white sedan rushing down the taxiway close to planes. The information outlet reported that an air visitors controller suggested a Southwest airplane to “maintain place.”
“There’s a high-speed chase on the taxiway,” the controller stated.
Orange County sheriff’s deputies detained the driving force shortly thereafter and requested a medical evaluation from the Orange County Hearth Authority, the assertion stated.
“The person was evaluated on scene and decided to be experiencing a doable medical emergency,” Servin stated.
He was subsequently hospitalized and suspended from his job, in accordance with the assertion. Airport operations continued on schedule.
