Barry Keoghan fully embodies Ringo Starr while filming scenes for the highly anticipated Beatles biopic. The 33-year-old actor portrays the iconic drummer alongside Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
On-Set Transformation
On Saturday, Keoghan appeared as the spitting image of Sir Richard Starkey, known professionally as Ringo Starr. He sported an oversized fur jacket over a striped purple shirt, cropped trousers, a grown-out beard, Ringo’s signature shaggy hairstyle, and sunglasses to complete the retro ensemble.
The star drove a vintage Mini Cooper and filmed additional scenes inside a classic telephone box, looking far removed from his everyday appearance.
Production Details
Filming takes place at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios, with production starting in November 2025. Westminster Council confirms close collaboration with the production team, including temporary road closures at the iconic zebra crossing to recreate the Beatles’ 1969 album cover.
Director Sam Mendes describes the films as the “first binge-able theatrical experience.” Announced as The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, the project offers perspectives from each band member, tracing their journey from Liverpool unknowns in the early 1960s to global stardom and their 1970 breakup.
Historic Rights and Cast Insights
This marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison grant full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
Sir Ringo Starr hinted at Keoghan’s role, stating, “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”
Sir Ridley Scott noted Paul Mescal’s involvement while promoting Gladiator II, saying the actor is “actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next.”
Mendes also announced the casting of four talented actresses as Maureen, Linda, Yoko, and Pattie, calling them “four fascinating and unique figures in their own right.”
Keoghan’s Starstruck Encounter
Keoghan recently shared his nervousness during his first meeting with Ringo Starr. Despite describing it as “lovely,” he admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he felt so starstruck he struggled to make eye contact with the legend.
