A British couple from East Sussex faces a decade behind bars in Iran’s Evin Prison after authorities convicted them of espionage charges they firmly deny.
Arrest During World Motorcycle Trip
Lindsay and Craig Foreman encountered arrest by Iranian forces in January 2025 while embarking on a global adventure by motorcycle. The pair, now detained in Tehran’s infamous Evin facility, maintain their innocence against the spying accusations.
UK Government Condemns Verdict
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper denounced the ruling as “completely appalling and totally unjustifiable.” She affirmed that officials will press the Iranian government vigorously to secure the couple’s safe return to the UK and reunion with family.
Family Raises Alarms Over Trial
Lindsay’s son, Joe Bennett, expressed deep worry for his parents’ well-being. He highlighted that a three-hour trial denied them the chance to mount a defense. “They have consistently denied the allegations,” Bennett stated. “We have seen no evidence to support the charge of espionage.”
Bennett urged swift action from the UK Government, noting prior assurances of follow-up measures post-sentencing. He previously rallied alongside former detainee Anoosheh Ashoori and activist Richard Ratcliffe, who campaigned relentlessly—including hunger strikes—for the release of his wife, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Harsh Prison Conditions Revealed
Craig Foreman shared a stark account ahead of sentencing, issuing a single-word plea to UK authorities: “Help.” After 13 months in custody, he questioned the ongoing ordeal in modern times.
He detailed confinement in an eight-foot cell equipped only with a floor hole for sanitation and a basic sink, which shattered him emotionally and physically. The couple endures separation, permitted just one monthly visit despite nearby cells—70 meters apart.
“Seeing each other is the only thing keeping us going right now,” Craig said. “I love my wife dearly. She’s the love of my life.”
