Grammy-winning artist Chappell Roan has ended her partnership with Wasserman Music following the revelation of emails between CEO Casey Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell in unsealed Jeffrey Epstein documents.
Details of the Emails
Roan announced her departure on Instagram, stating, “I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well. No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.”
The emails, released in January 2026, date back to 2003, three years before Epstein’s arrest on child sex offense charges. In one exchange, Wasserman wrote to Maxwell, “Where are you, I miss you. I will be in nyc for 4 days starting april 22…can we book that massage now?” Maxwell replied in another message, “I can’t sleep – where are you when I need you?” while inquiring about renting a house in California.
Wasserman’s Response
Wasserman, who leads planning for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, faces no charges or accusations of criminal wrongdoing in the Epstein case. He issued a statement denying any personal or business relationship with Epstein and expressing deep regret over his correspondence with Maxwell. “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell,” he said, adding that he was “terribly sorry” for any association with her or Epstein. The allegations were unknown at the time of the emails.
Roan’s Stance on Industry Change
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, known professionally as Chappell Roan, views her exit as a catalyst for reform. “Artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity,” she posted on Instagram. “This decision reflects my belief that meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust.”
Wasserman represents major artists such as Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, and Pharrell Williams.
Previous High-Profile Exit
Billie Eilish, known for her hit “Birds of a Feather,” left Wasserman in 2024 amid reports of the CEO’s involvement in affairs with employees, including gifts like Louboutin shoes, La Perla lingerie, and Range Rover vehicles.
Roan’s Recent Controversies
Roan’s departure marks another chapter in her series of public disputes. In 2024, she compared fame to an “abusive ex-husband” during an interview, citing online harassment and stalking by obsessive fans.
That year, she initially declined to endorse Kamala Harris for president, stating, “F*** Trump for f***ing real, but f*** some of the s*** that has gone down in the Democratic party that has failed people like me and you,” before confirming her vote for Harris.
Roan also turned down a White House pride event under the Biden administration, arguing the government had yet to ensure “liberty, justice, and freedom for all.”
