Washington — The Authorities Accountability Workplace is opening an investigation into Federal Housing Finance Company Director Invoice Pulte’s latest actions, the watchdog arm of Congress confirmed to CBS Information.
The probe stems from a letter from high Senate Democrats, who wrote to GAO requesting an investigation of Pulte’s actions as head of the FHFA. They requested the congressional investigative arm to look into “referrals of New York Lawyer Normal Letitia James, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Prepare dinner, and Congressman Eric Swalwell to the U.S. Division of Justice for mortgage fraud.” NBC Information was first to report that GAO had agreed to the request.

The senators mentioned they need GAO to “decide whether or not the company and its workers misused federal authority and assets.”
“I can affirm that GAO has accepted this request following our commonplace course of,” a GAO spokesperson informed CBS Information. “The very first thing GAO does as any work begins is to find out the complete scope of what we’ll cowl and the methodology for use.”
The FHFA declined to remark. GAO, which is a part of the legislative department, responds to congressional requests for audits and investigations relating to authorities spending, in addition to allegations of felony or civil misconduct.
Pulte has come underneath scrutiny after referring New York Lawyer Normal Letitia James, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff and Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Prepare dinner to the Justice Division for felony referrals. Some Trump administration critics say Pulte is utilizing his authority to focus on political opponents.
