Easter weekend festivities face disruption as weather maps reveal a vast rain front barreling across the UK, targeting nearly 20 cities from northern Scotland to England’s south coast.
Cities in the Path of Heavy Rain
Northern England bears the brunt, with Carlisle, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Sunderland, York, and Derby forecast to endure the heaviest downpours on April 4 and 5. The Midlands and South also brace for drenchings in Birmingham, Stoke, Coventry, Gloucester, Bristol, and Bournemouth.
In Wales, Swansea stands out for intense showers, while Cardiff may dodge the worst. Scotland sees Perth, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Dundee soaked, though Edinburgh could receive lighter rain. Northern Ireland’s Belfast appears set for clear skies, ideal for holiday events.
Met Office Forecast Details
New maps from forecasters highlight April showers stretching the length of Britain. The Met Office warns of unsettled conditions over Easter, including strong winds and heavy rain, particularly in the west and north.
The Met Office stated: “It is increasingly likely that unsettled conditions will affect the UK over the Easter Holiday weekend, with the potential for strong winds and heavy rain at times. The wettest and windiest weather is more likely towards the west and north of the country.”
Post-Easter, a northwest-southeast divide emerges, with northern and western areas staying unsettled amid wind and rain spells. Southeastern regions may enjoy drier, clearer periods. Temperatures hover near average, with possible warmer bursts in the south.
