A former professional athlete from South Australia has entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated assault causing harm to a young boy. The individual, who hails from the southern suburbs of Adelaide, appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
Court Proceedings and Plea
During the court session, the former sportsman was formally asked by Magistrate Koula Kassiavelos how he pleaded. The defendant responded with a single word, “guilty,” while maintaining a neutral expression.
The defense indicated that the assault stemmed from an incident involving the defendant and two young boys who were reportedly in a dispute at the time of the altercation.
Suppression Order and Sentencing
The identity of the former professional sportsman has been suppressed until sentencing submissions, which are scheduled for next month. This measure is in place to protect the identities of family members. However, the defense anticipates a formal application to extend the existing interim suppression order during the upcoming proceedings.
The Adelaide resident is expected to return to court in July for the sentencing submissions.
