The Foreign Office is examining a five-figure severance payment awarded to Lord Peter Mandelson following his dismissal as US ambassador amid the recent Epstein files release.
Lord Mandelson received a settlement equivalent to three months’ salary, valued at approximately £38,750 to £55,000 before taxes and deductions. Government officials confirm the payout was initially approved, but it now faces scrutiny.
Calls for Repayment
Welfare Secretary Pat McFadden urges Lord Mandelson to return the funds and donate them to charity. His annual salary in the role ranged from £155,000 to £220,000, positioning it among the top-paid positions in the diplomatic service.

A Foreign Office spokesperson states: “Peter Mandelson’s civil service employment was terminated in accordance with legal advice and the terms and conditions of his employment. Normal civil service HR processes were followed. Further information will be provided to Parliament as part of the government response to the motion passed last week which is being coordinated by the Cabinet Office.”
