A 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman face charges after attempting unauthorized entry to HM Naval Base Clyde, Scotland’s Faslane facility, which houses Britain’s nuclear submarines.
Incident Details
The pair approached a base gate in a vehicle without proper passes. Security personnel turned them away, but authorities later detained them nearby for suspicious behavior. Police Scotland confirms the arrests and charges.
They are scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, March 23.

HM Naval Base Clyde serves as the Royal Navy’s headquarters in Scotland. It hosts Vanguard-class submarines equipped with Trident missiles, playing a critical role in the UK’s nuclear deterrent.
Geopolitical Tensions
The incident unfolds amid heightened Iran-UK-US frictions. Iran recently launched two ballistic missiles at a joint US-UK base in the Indian Ocean, shortly after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer approved US President Donald Trump’s request to deploy bombers from UK sites, including RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia, targeting Iranian missile positions near the Straits of Hormuz.
Iranian officials warn that Starmer’s decision endangers British lives. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X: “Vast majority of the British people do not want any part in the Israel-US war of choice on Iran. Ignoring his own people, Mr Starmer is putting British lives in danger by allowing UK bases to be used for aggression against Iran.”
Araghchi added that Iran would “exercise its right to self-defence” if the UK participates in US operations.
