Jessica Carter Dawson shared a deeply emotional post expressing her grief after the tragic death of her husband, Jaryd Dawson, at age 35. The post featured the last photograph she captured of Jaryd holding their infant son, Hudson, born in September.
Desperate Search Ends in Tragedy
Emergency services located Jaryd near his hometown of Robe, about 300km south of Adelaide, on Wednesday afternoon. He had gone missing around 2:30pm Tuesday, prompting urgent appeals from family members.
Jessica posted the image Thursday morning, writing: “The last photo I took of my boys, just two days prior. I was feeling so incredibly rich in life. Now my heart is shattered into a million pieces. Huddy and I will love you and miss you forever and ever and ever.”
Earlier, she had pleaded for information on social media: “If anyone has heard from Jaryd since around 2:30pm yesterday please please let us know.”
No Suspicious Circumstances
South Australia Police confirmed no suspicious circumstances surround the death. Authorities found his car and phone at Beacon Hill Lookout near Robe before locating him.
The Adelaide Crows playing group learned of the disappearance Wednesday morning. Jaryd’s brother, AFL star Jordan Dawson, captains the team.
Family Life and Achievements
Jaryd and Jessica married in late 2024 and welcomed Hudson months later. A father of one, Jaryd co-founded Domus Design & Build, a construction firm in Robe.
He also excelled in local football as vice-captain of the Robe Roosters reserve-grade team and earned a call-up to A Grade for the 2025 Mid South Eastern Football League grand final.
Community Mourns Local Favorite
The loss has devastated Robe and the football community. A friend described him as: “Heavily involved in the local football club … you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who had not met him or had some connection to him. He was extremely well-known in the area and well-liked by everyone. Not one person had anything bad to say about him.”
Jordan Dawson faces St Kilda on Saturday at Adelaide Oval, with his participation uncertain. He honors his family with a tattoo of birthdays—including Jaryd’s, their parents Marian and Tony, and sister Chloe—in Roman numerals above his ankle. Jordan once explained: “I was with a mate, he was getting a tattoo and I thought it’d be nice to get.”
