Los Angeles County is poised to pay out a further $828 million for victims of alleged sexual abuse in county amenities, months after agreeing to the biggest intercourse abuse settlement in U.S. historical past.
The brand new award, posted on the county claims board agenda Friday, will embrace a further 400 instances that weren’t included within the $4-billion settlement permitted in April. The Board of Supervisors must vote on the potential settlement earlier than it’s finalized.
The announcement comes after The Occasions reported earlier this month on allegations of fraud and misconduct within the $4-billion settlement. 9 plaintiffs mentioned they have been paid to sue, and 4 of them have mentioned they made fraudulent claims.
The county mentioned in a press release they are going to be conducting further vetting.
“Our settlements steadiness our obligation to compensate victims and deal with their experiences with compassion with the necessity to put sturdy protections in place to guard taxpayers from fraud,” Supervisor Kathryn Barger mentioned in a press release.
