UFC two-weight champion Islam Makhachev has paused his fighting schedule this year, opting for a break from training camps. He recently traveled through Europe, visiting France before arriving in Italy. His journey hit a snag when thieves targeted his belongings during the trip.
Thieves Target Unique Gift from PSG Star
Makhachev shared on Instagram that robbers stole several items, with the most prized being a pair of signed boots gifted by Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian footballer inscribed a personal message on the boots, making them a cherished item for the Dagestani fighter.
In his post, Makhachev noted, “The most valuable thing were these shoes that @kvara7 gifted me.” Thieves overlooked other possessions, including his passport, wallet, and prayer mat, underscoring the selective nature of the theft.
Ironic Link to Rival Ilia Topuria
The incident gains extra intrigue due to Makhachev’s ongoing rivalry with Ilia Topuria. Kvaratskhelia, Georgia’s top football talent and a global standout, shares a nationality with Topuria. Recent verbal exchanges between Makhachev and Topuria have intensified, with ‘El Matador’ expressing hopes for a year-end clash that could complicate loyalties for the PSG player.
