Tragic Discovery in French Flat: Young Child Found Beside Deceased Parent
Emergency responders made a harrowing discovery in a Montagnac, France apartment on Thursday, June 4th, finding a severely malnourished four-year-old girl lying beside her deceased mother. The 40-year-old woman, believed to have suffered from epilepsy, was found unresponsive by officials responding to a welfare check. Philippe Audoui, first deputy mayor of Montagnac, commented on the critical state of the child, stating, “She wouldn’t have lasted another day.” The mother, who lived alone and was not believed to have a partner, was described by neighbors as a private individual. A psychological support team was established to assist emergency personnel and others who witnessed the scene, described by some as an “indescribable scene of horror.”
Rescue Operation Details
The investigation is being led by the Pézenas gendarmerie in collaboration with the public prosecutor’s office in Béziers. One responding officer described the scene as “horrific” and deeply upsetting, noting a strong odor upon entering the premises. Upon arrival at the social housing estate, officers found no response at the door. Local gendarmes were called, and firefighters accessed the first-floor apartment by using a ladder and breaking a window.
