Manchester United fan Frank Ilett needs just one more victory to end his 18-month wait for a haircut. The 29-year-old from Oxford, now based in Spain, pledged last year to grow his hair until the Red Devils secure five consecutive wins. Known online as The United Strand, Ilett plans to donate his locks to the Little Princess Trust once the milestone arrives.
Carrick Sparks Winning Run
Michael Carrick has transformed United’s form, delivering four straight triumphs. The latest came Saturday with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, where Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes scored. This followed impressive victories against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham.
Relegation-threatened West Ham, fresh off a 2-0 victory at Burnley, stands as the final hurdle. A win there would trigger Ilett’s long-awaited trim, untouched since October 2024.
Players Rally Behind Fan’s Challenge
Sources close to the team confirm players know of Ilett’s vow. The training ground buzzes with positivity amid the upturn. “The players are really enjoying their recent upturn in fortune and the vibe at the training ground is very positive,” one source noted. “They are well aware of Frank because he pops up on their social media. Some of them were having a laugh and a joke and said: ‘Come on, let’s give this guy a haircut’.”
Planning the Big Cut
Ilett eyes a special location for the chop. He shared: “It has been very difficult. But I want to do the haircut at Old Trafford, or at least somewhere nearby. Either way, there’s plenty of time to plan it!”
Fernandes Eyes Fifth Win
Captain Bruno Fernandes stresses focus after the Spurs success. “When we win games the confidence goes higher and higher,” he said. “It is very important for us to maintain the focus and not overdo it now. This is very good and very nice but we need to keep going. If you don’t win the next one and the next one you will get back into the same place where you don’t feel comfortable, you lose confidence and struggle to believe in everything you have been doing until now.”
Fernandes praised the team’s bravery: “But, we have been doing very well until now to do everything that Michael and the staff have been asking of us and we have been very brave taking responsibility in some moments in the game to go and play and do whatever you need to do to win the game. The main focus is the next game, it’s four wins in a row, this one is nice, but we need to make it five now.”
