Maria Ressa delivers SEA Oration at College of Melbourne

Rappler CEO and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa delivered the Southeast Asia Oration on the Asia Institute on the College of Melbourne final August 28.

After the speech, she was joined by: 

• Laura Tingle, the ABC’s international affairs editor
• Nicholas Coppel, creator of Myanmar’s Digital Coup and consultant president of the Australia Myanmar Institute
• Ken Setiawan, senior lecturer in Indonesian Research on the Asia Institute, College of Melbourne 
• Professor Michael Wesley, deputy vice chancellor (World, Tradition and Engagement), College of Melbourne

They talked about how media, democracy, and regional diplomacy intersect, particularly within the age of social media and AI.

The Southeast Asia Oration invitations a number one voice to debate the evolving face of politics, society, and the financial system in our area.
