Many Nationwide customers planning holidays can save money by checking their existing bank account benefits before purchasing separate travel insurance.
Travel Expert Highlights Hidden Coverage
Rebecca Wilcox, a travel expert, emphasizes that numerous travelers overlook built-in insurance from their bank accounts. She notes it is “astonishing” how many skip this step, urging people to verify coverage first.
“Are you already covered? You could have it with your bank account,” Wilcox states. “These are things we want to have a look at before we are getting our travel insurance. Does your bank account actually come with an add-on, one of those packaged accounts that includes travel insurance?”
Nationwide FlexPlus Account Benefits
Nationwide’s FlexPlus current account provides Worldwide Family Travel Insurance underwritten by Aviva Insurance Limited. This packaged account costs £18 per month and includes the insurance along with other perks. Customers must maintain the monthly fee even if they do not use the insurance, and the account cannot be separated from the coverage.
Key features include:
- Missed departure cover: Up to £1,000 for alternative travel and accommodation due to delays.
- Emergency medical expenses, including repatriation: Up to £10 million.
- Cancellation or trip curtailment: Up to £5,000.
- Additional protection for disruptions and more.
Exclusions and limitations apply to certain covers, so customers should review full policy documents for details.
Switch Incentive
Nationwide currently offers £175 for switching your main current account. This promotion ends on 4 March, with terms and conditions applying.
Other Banks with Similar Options
Several banks provide travel insurance through packaged accounts, such as Monzo, Virgin Money, and Halifax. These often require an extra monthly fee.
Before buying a new policy, confirm if your existing account already offers coverage to avoid duplicate payments and unnecessary costs.
