Thousands of customers across Newfoundland experienced a major power outage on Friday morning after a fault on the Labrador-Island Link transmission line.
Cause and Scope of the Disruption
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro confirmed the interruption affects multiple regions on the island. Officials expect the issue to resolve quickly, with restoration efforts already underway for many areas.
“These outages should be brief and restoration is underway for many customers,” the company stated.
Affected Regions
Outages span from the Avalon Peninsula and Burin Peninsula, extending along the north coast and central Newfoundland, reaching as far west as Channel-Port aux Basques.
By noon, disruptions continued from the Avalon Peninsula to the west coast.
