Ontario has finalized an agreement with Diageo, ensuring Crown Royal remains available on LCBO shelves. The deal commits the company to invest nearly $23 million in the province’s alcohol and agriculture sectors.
Key Terms of the Agreement
Following months of negotiations, the province announced the pact on Friday. This investment bolsters local supply chains and supports communities affected by industry changes.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford highlighted the benefits, stating the funds will “strengthen provincial supply chains and support the local community in Amherstburg and the surrounding area.”
Plant Closure Proceeds
Despite the agreement, Diageo continues with plans to close its Crown Royal bottling plant in Amherstburg, Ontario. The facility, now listed for sale, will shutter by the end of February, impacting nearly 200 jobs.
The closure decision dates back to last year. Crown Royal products will stay accessible through LCBO outlets as a direct result of the new commitment.
