A royal insider predicts that Prince William could ascend to the throne within the next six to 12 months, describing him as the acting king in all but name.
Speculation on King Charles’s Reign
During a recent podcast discussion, Rob Shuter, former publicist for Princess Michael of Kent who has worked closely with the royal family, shared insights from palace sources. Shuter revealed that his earlier article urging King Charles to abdicate received attention within the palace, with many agreeing it is time for a transition.
“Your bombshell piece saying Charles should abdicate was read within the palace, and a lot of people agree with you,” sources told Shuter. “It’s time to turn the page.”
Prince William’s Potential Ascension
Shuter emphasized William’s readiness, stating: “He’s already the King—he’s the acting King in all but name.” The 77-year-old King Charles faces ongoing speculation about the length of his reign amid family dynamics.
Royal Lodge Offer and Family Tensions
The discussion also touched on reports that King Charles plans to offer Royal Lodge—previously occupied by Prince Andrew—to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as a gesture of reconciliation. Prince Andrew recently vacated Royal Lodge and now resides at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk after relinquishing his royal titles.
Shuter believes William would not contest this move. “So be it, I don’t think William is going to fight on that hill,” he said. “There’s much bigger issues William is going to be dealing with.”
