Stratford, a rapidly expanding town in Prince Edward Island, plans to resurrect its local business support group, which disbanded following the COVID-19 pandemic. Local leaders and residents stress the value of fostering connections among business owners to navigate growth challenges.
Strong Demand for Business Connections
Leigh Read, a Stratford resident and former member of the group, underscores the essential role such an organization plays. “Certainly the connection for everybody is much needed,” Read states. “When you’re running a business or you’re part of a business, you always feel like you’re on your own, and sometimes there are things that you need to discuss and share, and you can within this group.”
Read relocated to P.E.I. in 2016 and credits the former group with providing reassurance through shared experiences. “It’s really important as the Town of Stratford grows that we look after each other,” he adds. “We’re willing to stand up and support and look after businesses, and embrace new businesses coming to the area because we have the ability to grow.”
Addressing Constant Community Growth
Town Councillor Jill Chandler describes the business expansion in Stratford as ongoing and steady. Businesses range from traditional storefronts to home-based operations, making precise counts difficult, though officials anticipate continued increases.
Chandler highlights the key advantage of reviving the group: enhanced networking. “The Town of Stratford has done a great job in connecting to specific audiences, and we’ve had record levels of engagement over the past year,” she notes. Building these ties helps the town tailor support for businesses and residents alike.
“Being open and receptive to those conversations and recognizing that they’re important is a big positive,” Chandler affirms.
Upcoming Planning Session
The town schedules a revival meeting for Wednesday at the Stratford Town Centre, starting at 6:30 p.m. Participants will explore strategies to strengthen the local business community.
