Teen Murder Trial Delayed Amid Claims of ‘Rogue Officer’ Evidence

A Georgia teenager accused of fatally shooting her mother and stepfather is facing a potential delay in her murder trial. Sarah Grace Patrick, now 18, appeared in Carroll County court on Monday, where her defense team requested more time to review newly surfaced evidence. The defense claims this evidence was brought forward by an officer they describe as ‘rogue,’ prompting concerns about the integrity of the investigation.

Defense Cites ‘Rogue Officer’ and New Evidence

Patrick was arrested in July 2025 at the age of 16, charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. The charges stem from the February 20 incident where her mother, Kristin Brock, 41, and stepfather, James Brock, 45, were found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in their Carrollton home, located approximately 45 miles west of Atlanta. Her trial had been scheduled to commence on August 3.

Attorney Shawn Hoover, representing Patrick, argued in court that the defense needs additional time to process significant new information. Hoover specifically raised concerns about the lead investigator and another official, whom he characterized as a ‘rogue officer.’ “We’re in a murder trial, a double homicide,” Hoover stated, expressing alarm that “rogue officers are bringing in evidence that no one knew before.”

Beyond the alleged actions of the specific officer, Hoover also indicated a need for more time to scrutinize the forensic examination conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The defense aims to ensure they can adequately prepare Patrick’s case and protect her interests moving forward.

Prosecution Denies ‘Rogue Officer’ Allegations

State prosecutors have refuted the defense’s claims of a ‘rogue officer.’ According to the prosecution, an officer did test a firearm to determine its potential involvement in the case, but the investigation concluded that the weapon was not connected to the homicides. The prosecution maintains that the evidence handling has been proper and that the defense’s assertions are unfounded.

The judge overseeing the case is currently reviewing the defense’s request for a trial delay. A decision is expected by Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday.

Background of the Case

Sarah Grace Patrick is being tried as an adult. Police initially stated that Patrick’s arrest was prompted by a substantial amount of digital and physical evidence. However, the circumstances surrounding the deaths took a complex turn in the months following the incident.

Before her arrest, Patrick, a high school graduate, maintained an active presence on social media. She reportedly reached out to true crime content creators on platforms like TikTok, seeking assistance in ‘solving’ what she portrayed as the brutal murder of her parents. While Patrick has not formally entered a plea, sources indicate she denies the charges and has asserted her innocence through her legal representation and family members.

The Night of the Killings

According to police accounts, Kristin and James Brock were fatally shot while they were asleep in their Carrollton residence. Patrick was reportedly inside the home at the time of the shootings. The discovery of the bodies was made by her then-five-year-old half-sister, Jaley, who alerted authorities by calling 911.

Social Media Persona and Grieving Daughter

In the period following the deaths, Patrick shared numerous posts on TikTok detailing her grief. These included videos of herself mourning her parents, one depicting her en route to their funeral, and another showing her crying while holding her mother’s clothing. She also delivered a tearful eulogy at the funeral service.

Initially, the couple’s deaths appeared to be a tragic, unsolved mystery, leaving two young girls orphaned. For several months, Patrick presented herself as a grieving daughter coping with immense loss. While some individuals close to the victims and law enforcement found her public displays of grief, particularly her eulogy, suspicious, her supporters argued that her reactions were a natural expression of profound sorrow.

Conclusion

The legal proceedings for Sarah Grace Patrick are ongoing, with the court now deliberating on the defense’s request for a trial postponement. The core of the dispute centers on the defense’s assertion of new evidence introduced by an officer they deem ‘rogue’ and the subsequent need for further investigation and preparation. The judge’s decision will determine the immediate path forward for the trial, impacting the timeline for addressing the serious charges against the young defendant.
