Authorities were dispatched to the vicinity of Lawrence Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue on June 5, 2026, in response to reports of a disturbance. Investigators allege that a man entered a local business and directed threats towards individuals he believed to be Palestinian. During the confrontation, the suspect was reportedly in possession of a weapon.
Suspect Identified and Charged
Following the incident, police apprehended Shafik Al Jawhari, 32, of Toronto. He has been formally charged with one count each of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Additionally, Al Jawhari faces charges for failing to comply with a probation order and two counts of uttering threats to cause death. These charges are currently unproven in court.
