Goalkeeper Andre Onana Nearing Manchester United Exit
The possibility of Manchester United offloading goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer has significantly improved. The 30-year-old Cameroonian is among several players expected to depart Old Trafford during the current transfer window. Onana spent the previous season on loan in Turkey with Trabzonspor, following a challenging period with the club.
Transfer Negotiations Underway
Despite having two years remaining on his contract, which is set to expire in 2028, the likelihood of a permanent transfer this summer appears to be increasing. Trabzonspor has expressed strong interest in securing Onana’s services permanently. Manchester United acquired Onana from Inter Milan in 2023 for a reported £43.8 million and aims to recover some of that investment.
Financial Outlook for Trabzonspor
While recouping the full transfer fee is unlikely, Trabzonspor is reportedly prepared to invest in the 53-time Cameroon international. Club president Ertugrul Dogan has confirmed ongoing discussions and stated that the club possesses the necessary financial resources. “We speak with Onana every day. We won’t have any financial difficulties,” Dogan asserted.
Contingency Plans in Place
Dogan further indicated that while Trabzonspor is committed to finalizing a deal with Manchester United, they have alternative options should negotiations falter. “We’ll make the necessary sacrifices. I don’t think we will experience any setbacks. But if we do, we will find another goalkeeper of the same quality,” he added.
Potential Wage Complications
Sources indicate that Onana’s initial loan agreement did not include a buy option or obligation. Negotiations have reportedly been complicated by wage demands. The situation could become more complex, with suggestions that Onana’s salary may increase following Trabzonspor’s qualification for the Champions League.
