CHICAGO (AP) — President Donald Trump’s administration has requested a navy base exterior Chicago for help on immigration operations, the bottom stated Thursday, signaling a push to increase its regulation enforcement crackdown to different cities.
The Division of Homeland Safety has requested Naval Station Nice Lakes for “restricted help within the type of services, infrastructure, and different logistical must help DHS operations,” stated Matt Mogle, spokesperson for the bottom 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of Chicago.
He stated no selections have been made on the request and that the bottom has not obtained an official request to help a Nationwide Guard deployment.
The request reveals the Republican administration’s want to maneuver past Washington because it ramps up immigration operations. Trump has threatened to deploy Nationwide Guard troops to Chicago and different Democratic-led cities after he referred to as up troops to focus on crime, immigration and homelessness in Washington.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, instructed The Related Press that the nation’s third-largest metropolis doesn’t want or need navy intervention to struggle crime.
