Donald Trump has pointed to a recent admission by First Lady Jill Biden regarding her husband’s performance during a pivotal 2024 presidential debate. Trump asserts that his own ‘spectacular’ showing was the true reason for Joe Biden’s struggles, leading to his opponent’s eventual withdrawal from the race.
In a social media post, Trump stated, “Jill Biden is now out there finally admitting that she did NOT know what went wrong with Sleepy Joe during our spectacular, and highly rated, 2024 Presidential Debate, where Joe was not exactly performing to the highest level of debate standards.”
First Lady’s Memoir Sparks Debate
The First Lady made the candid remarks in a recent interview discussing her new memoir. She recounted her concerns during the June 2024 debate, where President Biden appeared to struggle with speech and coherent thought. At the time, she expressed fears that he might have been experiencing a ‘stroke’ or had been ‘drugged’.
Trump, in his post, also alluded to criticism that Jill Biden did not immediately assist her husband during the debate. He questioned whether his strong performance “caused him to plain and simple ‘choke,’ leading to his ignominious defeat, or were other reasons the cause?” He concluded with a definitive statement: “Nobody else knows the answer to that, BUT I DO!!!”
Debate Fallout and Biden’s Exit
During the debate, President Biden appeared visibly frail, frequently losing his train of thought and slurring his words. This performance led to widespread concern among Democratic allies about his fitness for office. Less than a month after the debate, President Biden announced he was ending his campaign.
