U.S. fighter jets had been scrambled Thursday to intercept a number of Russian bombers, fighter jets and a spy aircraft that had been noticed flying off the coast of Alaska, U.S. authorities mentioned.

Two Russian Tu-95s bombers, two Su-35s fighter planes and an A-50 spy aircraft had been detected within the Alaskan Air Protection Identification Zone, the North American Aerospace Protection Command reported in an announcement.

NORAD mentioned it launched two F-16s, two F-35s and 4 KC-135s to escort the Russian plane till that they had departed the Alaskan ADIZ.

The Russian plane didn’t enter U.S. or Canadian airspace, mentioned NORAD, which described Russia’s exercise within the Alaskan ADIZ as an everyday incidence that was not thought of a risk.
