The Olina is the fifth tanker that has been seized by U.S. forces as a part of a broader effort by President Trump’s administration to regulate the distribution of Venezuela’s oil merchandise globally following the U.S. ouster of President Nicolás Maduro.

Two tankers have been interdicted on Wednesday— one within the North Atlantic and one within the Caribbean Sea, officers mentioned.

The U.S. European Command confirmed the seizure of the Marinera, a Venezuela-linked oil tanker previously generally known as Bella-1, within the North Atlantic after pursuing it from the coast of South America. U.S. Southern Command introduced that the opposite intercepted vessel, M/T Sophia, was “conducting illicit actions” in worldwide waters within the Caribbean.

Ships just like the Marinera are a part of a so-called shadow fleet of ships that illegally transport oil from sanctioned nations like Russia, Iran and Venezuela.

Maduro has rejected U.S. allegations about how the vessels are getting used and accuses the U.S. of plundering Venezuelan assets beneath the quilt of regulation enforcement.

Homeland Safety Secretary Kristi Noem, who shared an extended video of the seizure on Friday, mentioned the Olina was a “ghost fleet” tanker ship that departed Venezuela, “making an attempt to evade U.S. forces.”

“The ghost fleets won’t outrun justice. They won’t disguise beneath false claims of nationality,” Noem mentioned on X. “The Coast Guard will seize sanctioned oil tankers, implement U.S. and worldwide regulation, and eradicate these funding streams for illicit exercise together with narco-terrorism.”

The world’s criminals are on discover.
