A Winnipeg man faces conviction on five counts of second-degree murder after fatally shooting five people in a West Broadway rooming house that had become a notorious drug den.
Swift Jury Verdict
The Court of King’s Bench jury delivered the guilty verdict for Jamie Felix just hours after beginning deliberations in sequestration. Felix had entered a not guilty plea for the 2023 killings.
Trial Details and Evidence
Over the two-week trial, evidence revealed Felix spent several days consuming crack cocaine and alcohol at the rooming house before the shootings. He later confessed to his ex-girlfriend that he fired shots inside one of the units.
Victims Identified
The victims include Crystal Beardy, 34; her sister Stephanie Beardy, 33; Melelek Lesikel, 29; Dylan Lavallee, 41; and Shawn Marko, 56.
Prosecution and Defense Arguments
Prosecutors argued Felix acted out of paranoia during the incident. The defense countered that Felix served as a patsy in a setup orchestrated by his late father.
