In a public statement, Xbox cited the persistent “components crisis” as the primary driver for the price adjustment. The statement indicated that the cost of essential parts used in console manufacturing has significantly escalated. Specifically, prices for console storage and memory have reportedly more than doubled, with expectations of further increases by the fall of 2027.
An excerpt from the statement read: “We hoped another price increase would not be necessary, and we have spent the last several months working with suppliers on options. Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.”
Projected UK Pricing Shifts
While Microsoft has not yet released specific UK pricing for the updated consoles, analysis based on the company’s stated global increases provides a clear indication of the expected costs. The 512GB models are anticipated to see a $100 price increase, and 1TB models are expected to rise by $150.
Based on current exchange rates, this translates to the following projected price increases for the UK market:
- The Xbox Series S 512GB console could rise from approximately £299.99 to around £374.99.
- The Xbox Series S 1TB console may increase from £349.99 to approximately £463.99.
Similar price adjustments are expected for the Xbox Series X range:
- The Xbox Series X 1TB Digital model is projected to increase from £449.99 to around £563.99.
- The Xbox Series X 1TB Disc model could see its price rise from £499.99 to approximately £613.99.
It is important to note that a 512GB model for the Xbox Series X is not currently available.
